In response to COVID-19, and to boost our economy by equipping and upskilling our workforce in key national priority areas, the Australian Government is providing significant subsidisation of short course fees in 2022 only.
Take advantage of significantly reduced fees across the key priority areas including education, health, science, information technology and project management. These programs are ideal if you’re recently unemployed or simply looking to retrain or upskill.

Why are these particular programs discounted?
In 2021, the Australian Government announced funding for additional Commonwealth Supported Places across a range of programs across the key priority areas including education, health, science, information technology and business. The scheme aims to support those who are looking to retrain, change career or upskill in economic growth areas to prepare our nation and workforce to move out of the economic downturn. Funding has continued in 2022 to allow us to continue to offer a select group of programs at a Commonwealth Supported rate.

When do I have to start studying in one of the identified programs to access the discounted fees?
You must commence and enrol in study during 2022 to receive the government subsidised price. It is anticipated that from 2023 students entering these programs will need to pay the normal full fees.

The University of South Australia is offering a selected number of programs as part of the discounted suite.

When and how do I apply?
Apply for the Undergraduate Certificate in Aged Care via UniSA Online. All other government subsidized short course are available by applying through SATAC. Please refer to the specific course for further information, including application dates.

Can I apply and then defer my studies?
No, you must commence study in 2022 to be able to access the discounted fees. Please note that from 2023, tuition fees for these programs will revert to the full rate for new students.

What are the national priority areas?
The national priority areas are Teaching, Nursing, Psychology, Mathematical Sciences, Agriculture, Allied Health and Other Health, Counselling, Information Technology, Languages, Architecture and Building, Science, Engineering and Related Technologies, Medical Science, and Environmental Studies.

Do I still have to pay the student services and amenities fee?
Yes, you must pay the student services and amenities fees by the invoice due date or eligible students can defer to SA-HELP.

Can I study more than one program?
Yes.

Can I study part-time?
Yes, most programs can be studied part-time as indicated on the course information. Provided that you enrol and begin your study in 2022, you can continue this study in 2023 at the reduced rate.

If I am an Australian citizen living overseas but I am studying online, am I be eligible to receive a HECS-HELP loan?
Unfortunately, no. Commonwealth Supported Places are not available to Australians living overseas. You must be residing in Australia for at least part of your studies to be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place and access both HECS-HELP and the discounted fees.

Who is eligible to apply for the CSP funded programs?
Applications are open to Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, holders of permanent humanitarian visas and New Zealand citizens residing in Australia. Students must also meet the entry requirements and begin their studies in 2022.

Can I use my program to gain credit into further study?
Yes, you can use the courses you have passed as credit into further study relating to this field including Graduate Diploma and Master qualifications. Please note that a pass is achieved with a P2 grade or higher.

What if I'm already studying this program, do I receive the reduced fees?
Yes, if you are already studying a program that has recently changed as part of this scheme, any courses you undertake during 2022 will be charged at the reduced rate.
