Applicants must have completed a three-year Bachelor degree from a recognised higher education institution, or equivalent.
In addition, applicants must meet the prerequisites for the two Learning Areas in which they intend to specialise. In all cases the prerequisites will be at least two minors in two subject areas relevant to the Learning Areas taught in Years 3 to 10.
A minor is equal to 18 units, commonly four (4) courses valuing 4.5 units per course.
Applicants for the Primary and Middle specialisation require a three-year degree from a recognised tertiary institution. In addition to a three-year degree, Primary and Middle applicants need two learning areas in their undergraduate degree from the following learning areas: Arts (Dance, Drama, Music, Media Arts or Visual Arts), English, Mathematics, Health and Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences (History/Geography), Languages, Design and Technology and Science.
Thus, the Master of Teaching (Primary and Middle) program produces graduates with the professional capacities to teach in two learning areas of specialisation.
Selection is based on academic merit.
Additional selection processes may apply from 2017.
Applicants are advised that a successful criminal history screening clearance is required for all students prior to their undertaking any professional experience/practicum placement that involves contact with minors (under 18 years of age). Information on the procedure to be followed for obtaining clearance will be provided with the letter of offer or may be viewed at the School of Education criminal history screening web page. These placements form a compulsory part of the program. A successful clearance may also be required for other courses, eg to enter any school, pre-school or childcare centre for any reason, including on placement, observation or visits, unless the students are already registered teachers.
