Applicants would normally have a bachelor degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Business, or equivalent qualifications; with at least a grade point average of 5.0 (credit average); and pass an interview to be eligible for this program; and
Applicants would normally have passed coursework with the following content:
Computer programming,
Systems analysis,
Systems design, and
Data modelling and database design; and
Four courses from the following list:
Accounting
Economics
Finance
General management
Human resource management
Law
Marketing
Organisational behaviour
Strategic management

In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

The program is designed to develop leadership skills and specialised expertise at an advanced level in business, financial and information systems disciplines.
Content & Structure
The program requires completion of courses totalling 54 units taken over 1 calendar year. The duration of 1.5 years, as listed in the program snapshot, is reflective of the usual duration for a 54 unit program. Unlike most 54 unit programs, the Master of Business Information Systems is completed in one calendar year of full time study, as some courses are taught during the summer study period 7.
1. The degree must be taken in the internal delivery mode and on a full-time basis only.
Notes
1. Students are expected to attend program seminars scheduled by staff and industry partners.
2. Students are required to complete two courses while working with an industry partner.
3. Students are required to take 18 units worth of elecive courses and should consult with the Program Director about their choice of electives.
4. Students who do not have an appropriate business background will be required to choose the following 9.0 units of Elective courses:
- ACCT 5011 Accounting for Management M
- BUSS 5114 People, Organisations and Leadership
5. Students who do not have an appropriate IS/IT background will be required to choose the following 9.0 units of Elective courses:
- INFS 5058 Fundamentals of Information Systems M
- INFS 5089 Enterprise Data Management
6. The degree may commence in study period 2, 5 or 7 and will continue for one calendar year.
7. Not all courses may be offered in all study periods.
8. Students who have previously completed ICT Specialist Industry Project (INFT 4026) or equivalent are required to choose 9.0 units of Elective courses instead.
