- A completed bachelor degree which includes a major in business, commerce, marketing or management; or

In this degree you will learn contemporary management skills and study areas such as project management and the principles and practice of tourism. You will gain the confidence to manage organisations and achieve business objectives in an efficient and effective manner.
You will be immersed in real-world challenges and have access to industry placements, overseas study tours and elective courses to suit your personal and professional development needs. During your studies you will develop an advanced understanding of business and management and graduate with the capabilities to be a successful leader and decision-maker in any business setting.
You will benefit from a range of experience-based learning opportunities, including overseas study trips and business mentorships with a senior business leader through the Executive Partners Program. Our summer and winter schools offer exciting study and learning opportunities, with options such as intensives and internships. You can also spread your study load across the year, increase your exchange opportunities or fast track your degree.
What you'll learn
The Master of Management (Tourism and Event Management) comprises 12 courses. You will complete four core courses and six Tourism and Event Management specialisation courses.
Advance your knowledge and skills in contemporary management practice. Develop your expertise in core areas such as business ethics, business analytics, leadership and performance, and strategic thinking. Learn how to effectively manage organisations and achieve key business objectives.
Through these you will develop skills and expertise in areas that include:
- business analytics and the data-driven organisation
- the principles and practices of tourism
- tourism impacts and sustainability
- people, leadership and performance
Graduate with the knowledge and skills to pursue a global management career in the tourism, event and hospitality sectors.
Study hours
For each course you study, you will need to allocate time for various classes such as lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminars and practicals. Plus you will need additional hours to study in your own time to complete assignments, readings and projects, as well as to contribute to online discussion forums. So as a general rule, if you are studying full-time you would need to allocate 12–26 hours of study when at university and 14–28 hours of independent study per week.

- Community development officer: maximising the use of local facilities through the development of programs, creating partnerships, and working with the community; developing initiatives for local residents to improve wellbeing and enhance quality of life
- Conference coordinator: liaising with contractors and suppliers; organising equipment and programmes; assisting on-site throughout the event; using strong organisational and managerial skills to ensure smooth execution conferences
- Destination marketing manager: leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of marketing campaigns to drive bookings of experiences and events; managing paid and organic digital marketing channels; collaborating with designers to produce creative materials; effectively managing all CRM campaigns to promote packages to new and existing tourism partners
- Economic development officer: researching and monitoring the economic environment to identify and pursue investment attraction opportunities; forming strategic alliances and partnerships in order to strengthen the economy
- Event director: using strong organisational and project management skills to deliver successful, cost-effective events; managing staff and suppliers; booking venues, facilities and equipment; marketing and promotion; analysis and reporting on event performance
- Event sponsorship manager: coordinating sponsorship solicitation and fundraising efforts; meeting stakeholder needs; managing renewals and negotiations; overseeing communication with sponsors, aligning business and market needs; overseeing sponsorship strategies
- Events and exhibitions manager: project managing and coordinating collection changeovers and exhibitions at arts organisations; managing contractors and budgets; collaborating with designers and liaising with artists
- Festival organiser: logistical planning, organisation and execution of events; using creative ideas to promote festivals; ensuring budgetary considerations are fulfilled
- Hotel manager: overseeing daily hotel operations; planning and supervising staff activities; ensuring the smooth and profitable running of business; strategic planning and reporting; communicating effectively with employees, customers and suppliers
- Marketing manager: managing the promotion and positioning of a brand or product; raising brand awareness; creating marketing campaigns to increase sales; effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders
- Professional conference coordinator: liaising with contractors and suppliers; organising equipment and programmes; assisting on-site throughout the event; using strong organisational and managerial skills to ensure smooth execution conferences
- Strategic partnerships manager: strengthening existing relationships; developing new partnerships; using strategic thinking to identify collaboration opportunities that benefit both parties
- Tourism and hospitality business owner: overall management of strategy and operations relating to event planning, sales and marketing, lodging, and customer service; planning annual budgets and monitoring return on investment
- Tourism development manager: conceptualising and implementing strategic plans to help drive tourism; engaging with community stakeholders to align development goals
- Tourism experience manager: representing a particular community or destination develop enriching, meaningful experiences for visitors
- Tourism policy planner: developing policy and research papers, major industry reports, submissions and responses; engaging with stakeholders such as industry and the general public and maintaining these networks; monitoring and reporting; developing government or stakeholder relations strategies

Your program director
I am a Senior Lecturer (Strategy and Entrepreneurship) and the Program Director for a number of postgrad business courses. I am also the co-Director for Centre for Enterprise Dynamics in Global Economies (C-EDGE), a research centre within UniSA. In the past I had the opportunity to work and provide consultancy to industry and the government in Australia and India. I’ve also conducted extensive, high-quality research in the field of innovation policy, entrepreneurship, strategy, and international business. As Program Director for this degree, I believe students will benefit from both industry informed coursework and practical opportunities such as business mentorships, to help advance their future career goals.

How do I apply?
There are a number of ways to apply to study UniSA's undergraduate and postgraduate coursework degrees.
Applications for admission into the University of South Australia’s undergraduate and most postgraduate degrees are made via the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC). Visit satac.edu.au and follow the links.
For the MBA degrees please apply through the UniSA MBA Application Portal. Applications for a small number of degrees are submitted direct to UniSA through our Apply Online portal. It will be noted on the degree page if you need to apply via Apply Online.
Postgraduate study by research

Is there a closing date for applications?
Undergraduate
Yes. The deadline to apply to study a degree at UniSA for semester one (commencing late February) and be given equal consideration is in early December. While you may be able to apply after this date, you are not guaranteed to be considered equally with other applicants and your application may not be assessed in time for the main round of offers (mid January). Some degrees will not make any offers after the main offer round. Please click here find all of the key dates for applications here.Postgraduate
Most postgraduate degrees do not have a closing date for applications. However, there are exceptions, so it is best to check – either on the SATAC website, Apply Online or the degree homepage. Postgraduate offers are normally ‘rolling’, meaning they may be sent out at any time up until the program starts. This also means that applications may close at any time without warning, if the quota is filled earlier. For this reason, postgraduate applications should be submitted without delay. What credit can I receive for previous studies?
Credit transfer or advanced standing
You may be eligible to receive a credit transfer or advanced standing for your chosen UniSA degree based on your previous studies, if they are in a related area at an equivalent or higher level. Receiving a credit transfer will reduce the number of courses you undertake within the degree, and may also reduce the overall duration of your degree.
Recognised prior learning
If you have related industry experience, you may also be eligible to receive recognised prior learning for this experience. Receiving recognised prior learning will normally reduce the number of courses you undertake within the degree, and can reduce the duration of the degree.
How do I get credit?
Credit transfer and recognition of prior learning is assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Program Director who will discuss your prior learning and experience with you to ascertain what credit you may be eligible for.
