Admission criteria

The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.

Certain conditions apply. For more information refer to Appendix 4 of the University's Selection and Entry policy.

To be eligible for selection, applicants are required to have:

Completed the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE); and

completed 200 credits of subjects;
achieved a grade of C* or better in the Personal Learning Plan, 20 credits of literacy, 10 credits of numeracy and the Research Project at Stage 2;
achieved a grade C- or better in an additional 60 credits at Stage 2;
obtained a competitive ATAR.

* For Stage 2 subjects a grade of C- or better is required

Alternatively, the minimum educational requirements may be met by those who have fulfilled prerequisite requirements :

Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for university entry under SACE; OR
Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution; OR
Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level; OR
Completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Certificate IV or above; OR
Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma; OR
Qualified for Special Entry; OR
Completed University Foundation Studies program, Applied Science and Engineering stream; OR
Completed the Associate Degree in Engineering program at the University of South Australia.

In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

Aim

The program aims to prepare students for a professional career in information technology engineering with particular emphasis on the areas specified within each stream name.

Content & Structure

The Bachelor of Engineering requires completion of courses totalling 144 units. This comprises a near common two year foundation program of mathematics, science computing and electrical and electronic engineering principles. Each specialisation commences in the third year of study, where students concentrate on their chosen application area, as well as a set of common courses in mathematics, systems engineering, computer communications, real-time systems and control. Further specialist courses are offered in the final year. The degree inculcates professional engineering skills in a major final year group project, spanning both First and Second Half of the final year.

Rules

1. The Honours Electrical and Renewable Energy elective must be chosen from the list of Honours electives attached to the Schedule.

2. All students must complete a period of industrial experience in a relevant industry prior to graduation. This program requires a minimum of 12 weeks of industrial experience in a relevant industry, which would normally be obtained from the second year of the program onwards. Assessment in the course Practical Industrial Experience Reports will remain incomplete until the student submits a written report and receives a pass.

3. The Electrical and Renewable Energy electives must be chosen from the list of electives attached to the schedule.

1. The University elective is a course freely chosen by students from any school or program within the University of South Australia subject to pre-requisite requirements and availability

2. To be eligible for entry into the Honours program students will need a GPA of 5.0 or higher from their first three years of study in the program.

3. If required for overseas professional accreditation, students may elect to graduate with the alternative nomenclature Bachelor of Engineering [Electronic Engineering].
