Course aim

To design renewable and hybrid energy systems for stand-alone operation, and to integrate various renewable sources to power grid.

Course content

Overview of power system structure and operation. Load balancing and energy storage in microgrid and hybrid generating systems. Solar energy systems – modelling of solar PV systems, performance measurements, energy yield, design of standalone and grid connected PV systems. Wind energy systems - modelling, operation and characteristics of wind generators, wind farms and aggregated generator model, and integration of wind farms to grid. Technical regulations - overview of grid codes, voltage and frequency control, wind farm protection, and low voltage ride-through (LVRT) capability. Case studies.
