Course aim

Building on EEET 3046 Control Systems, to provide training in system modelling using state-space equations, and applying optimal state estimation and control techniques to the state-space models.

Course content

Model multivariable systems using state-space equations and linearisation techniques.

Linear algebra for state-space methods.

Analyse system controllability, observability and Lyapunov stability.

Design observer-based state-feedback controllers using pole placement.

Design optimal controllers using linear quadratic regulation and linear quadratic estimation.

Introduction to model predictive control as an extension of optimal control.

Case studies presenting sample rigid multibody systems, controller designs, practical implementation considerations and limitations
