    Admission criteria

    The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.

    Certain conditions apply. For more information refer to Appendix 4 of the University's Selection and Entry policy.

    To be eligible for selection, applicants are required to have:

      Completed the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE); and

    • completed 200 credits of subjects;
    • achieved a grade of C* or better in the Personal Learning Plan, 20 credits of literacy, 10 credits of numeracy and the Research Project at Stage 2;
    • achieved a grade C- or better in an additional 60 credits at Stage 2;
    • obtained a competitive ATAR.

      * For Stage 2 subjects a grade of C- or better is required

    • Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for University entry under SACE and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
    • Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma, obtaining a minimum score of 24 points and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
    • Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
    • Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
    • Completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Certificate IV or above and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
    • Qualified for Special Entry and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
    • Completed the University Foundation Studies program

    * Normally applicants with a grade point average of 4** or better will be recognised for entry.
    ** A GPA of 4 refers to the UniSA grading scale which has a range of 1 - 7, other Australian and international grading scales will be considered.

    In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

Aim

The Bachelor of Management, Bachelor of International Relations double degree program develops in students:

  • knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to work as productive and socially responsible managers in a global and multicutural environment;
  • knowledge of and a capacity for informed analysis in international relations and intercultural comparative studies; and
  • basic communication skills in a foreign language.

Content & Structure

The Bachelor of Management, Bachelor of International Relations double degree requires completion of courses totalling 144 units.

The double degree program consists of:

  • a Division Business core of eight courses (36 units);
  • a professional major sequence of eight courses (including a management elective course) specific to the Bachelor of Management (chosen from one of the two streams: International Management; or Operations Management) (36 units);
  • an International Relations professional major sequence of eight courses (36 units);
  • four courses in an approved language (18 units); and
  • an International Study Experience or a Hawke Ambassador International Volunteer Experience of four World Politics courses (18 units).

    Rules

    1. The program comprises: a Division of Business core of eight courses which are offered in both the first and second half of the year; a professional major sequence of eight courses (including a management elective course) specific to the Bachelor of Management (chosen from one of the two streams: Management; and Logistics and Supply Chain Management); a professional major sequence of eight courses in International Relations; at least four courses in a language other than English (or English as a foreign language courses for overseas students from a non-English speaking background); an International Study Experience consisting of 18 units of approved study in languages or World Politics or business at an overseas university or a Hawke Ambassador International Volunteer Experience; or four courses chosen from World Politics or two courses of further study of a language and two World Politics courses.

    2. Credit is granted for relevant studies completed at a tertiary educational institution or equivalent level. Maximum credit granted is half the courses of the program (ie 72 units). Furthermore, students are required to undertake at least 36 units from the Management component (including the division core) and at least 36 units from the International Relations Undergraduate Program component (including international relations, languages, World Politics or the overseas study option if it is taken).

    3. If the overseas study option is not taken, students complete their program according to the "International experience not taken" modified program schedule.

    4. Graduates of the Bachelor of Management or Bachelor of International Relations are eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Management, Bachelor of International Relations double degree program.

    5. Students may transfer from the Bachelor of Management, Bachelor of International Relations to either the Bachelor of Management or the Bachelor of International Relations if they satisfy the selection criteria of the appropriate division in each case.

    Notes

    1. This course is one of the compulsory Division of Business core of eight courses. All Division of Business core courses will be offered in both the first half and the second half of the year.

    2. This course is one of 8 courses specific to a Management major

    3. This course must be completed in the professional major in International Relations. The four optional strands of the International Relations Professional Major are: Asia and the World; or Forces in World Politics; or Peace and Security; or Politics, Policy and Risk. Students complete one of the four optional strands. Each strand consists of three required courses and are listed in the electives pool above. World Politics courses required in the International Relations Professional Major strand chosen by a student then become International Relations Professional major courses for that student, and cannot be double-counted as World Politics electives by that student.

    4. This course is a surrogate for one of the four languages courses which are chosen by students from one of the languages taught by academic staff of the University of South Australia (French, Italian or Japanese) or from those available by cross-institutional cooperation (including Mandarin Chinese, German, Modern Greek, Indonesian or Spanish) under arrangements approved by the Languages Coordinator. Overseas students from non-English speaking backgrounds may take 18 units of coursework in English as an Additional Language in place of 18 units in a language other than English. Students may vary to the extent of completing 9 units of foreign language studies (2 courses) and 9 units of World Politics electives (2 courses).

    5. The four courses in first half of third year may be 18 units of studies in languages or World Politics or business or management at an overseas university as an International Study Experience. A Hawke Ambassador International Volunteer Experience is an alternative overseas option. If an international experience option is not taken, students complete four World Politics courses or two courses of further study of a language and two World Politics courses. If an overseas option is not taken, in combination with note 4, students may vary to the extent of completing 9 units of foreign language studies (2 courses) and a total of 27 units of World Politics electives (6 courses) or a total of 27 units of foreign language studies (6 courses) and 9 units of World Politics electives (2 courses). The World Politics courses may be chosen from the World Politics general studies major/minor courses.

    6. The Program Director of the Bachelor of Management, Bachelor of International Relations double degree is appointed by the School of Management. The Program Director of the Bachelor of Management, Bachelor of International Relations double degree consults with the Program Director of the Bachelor of International Relations for the International Studies Undergraduate Program components of the double degree program.
