Welcoming Centre Public Pantry

Welcoming Australia is a not-for-profit organisation which creates a safe and welcoming space for new arrivals to Australia – refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many existing programs run by Welcoming Australia’s ‘Welcoming Centre’ have stopped or changed dramatically while community needs continue to grow.

Many people have lost jobs due to the pandemic and are unable to access support services. The Welcoming Centre provides financial support, and access to groceries to this part of the community.

This project is an opportunity for students to assist with the emergency relief program that is in place to support these vulnerable people during this uncertain time.

Activities:

  • Intake assessment and coordination
  • Receiving and sorting od donations
  • Delivery of donations through the centre or to people’s homes
