UniSA students can get involved in community building initiatives within the City of Charles Sturt through the Community Service Learning Project.

City of Charles Sturt - Youth Development Projects

Leadership Program

This project involves working with staff to develop a 30 week youth leadership program that teaches young people about topics such as effective communication; problem solving; relationship building; personal values and strengths; etc.

No Bullying Project

This project involves working with schools and students to undertake a community wide project on no bullying.  It will involve planning and facilitating a poster competition and resulting exhibition including the launch of three Pt Road street banners as well as working with local businesses to obtain their ‘buy in’ around standing out against bullying.

Youth Conference

This project involves the scoping and planning of a youth specific conference – a conference that young people can attend to extend their knowledge.  This will involve gathering information on potential venues, speakers, sponsors, funding and collaborations.  It will also involve work around identifying specific themes.

Marketing and Communications

This project involves working with Youth Development staff to undertake a review of marketing materials and to help design marketing materials including social media that are youth friendly and attractive.  This project may include writing social media posts.

Skate Competition Event

City of Charles Sturt has just completed a new skatepark adjacent to The Brocas Youth Centre.  This project will be focussed on planning and running a Youth Skate Competition to be held towards the end of 2020.  Part of this project will involve consulting with young people and bringing them onboard to help with the planning and event management.

Youth Band Nights

This project involves working with staff and local schools to plan and host a Youth Band night at Woodville Town Hall.  The outcome of this project is to give young musicians an opportunity to perform in front of a large audience and to give young people (U18) access to safe entertainment in their local area where they can socialise.

Community Art Projects

This project involves working across several community centres with community members to design and paint wayfinding poles which will feature at the community centres.  The outcome of this project is focussed on engaging community members in a fun and artistic manner to create a sense of belonging within their community.
