Aim

The Master of Design (Sustainable Design) qualifies individuals who apply an advanced body of practical knowledge and specialist theoretical framework of sustainable design for professional practice within ever-changing social, environmental and economic contexts, as well as a pathway for further learning.

Content & Structure

Graduates of the Master of Design (Sustainable Design) will have a body of knowledge of the principles and practices of a more sustainable approach to design. Graduates will have the disciplinary knowledge to critically evaluate and develop progressive approaches to multi-disciplinary design context. Graduates will also have knowledge of research methods and principles applicable to sustainable design in multi-disciplinary projects.



Graduates will have advanced cognitive skills to demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and to reflect critically on sustainable design theory and practice or scholarship, cognitive, technical and creative skills to investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories and to apply established theories of sustainable design to different bodies of knowledge or practice, communication and technical research skills to justify and interpret sustainable design theoretical propositions, methodologies, conclusions and professional decisions to specialist and non-specialist audiences, technical and communication skills to design, evaluate, implement, analyse and theorise about developments that contribute to sustainable design practice.



Graduates will demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills through a substantial research-based project to demonstrate creativity and initiative to new situations in the design professions relative to sustainability.



The students will complete 72 units of study comprising 36 units of design research studio, 13.5 units of research methods and project, 4.5 units of sustainable design specialist course, and 18 units of electives.
