Course aim

To develop an in-depth understanding of the dynamic social, cultural and ethical contexts of sustainable design.

Course content

Students will develop their knowledge of consumerism, social change and sustainability, particularly in regard to technological artefacts, innovation and behavioural change.
Students will gain an understanding of creating more sustainable urban design and housing in a global industrialised culture that is linked to sustainable transport and communications systems.
Students are also introduced to notions of the ethics of and practices around waste, manufacturing and industrial ecology and are encouraged to consider the design and development of self-sustaining communities using the principles of sustainable design.
