1. UniSA bachelor degree students or students enrolled in bachelor degrees at other Australian universities may take the Associate Degree in Languages and Culture Studies concurrently with the students' main degree; this adds an extra year to the length over which the main degree must be taken. Language studies cannot be confined solely to the additional year. This will require some adjustment to the normal pattern of the main degree and students should seek academic advice to help structure their program of studies.
2. Students may be granted credit for previous studies, studies-in-lieu or exemption from work within courses in accordance with University policy on Recognition of Prior Learning. Maximum credit allowed is normally two courses (9 units).
1. The Associate Degree in Languages and Culture Studies is normally offered on a part-time basis and may take up to four years to complete, depending on prior learning in the chosen language and course choices.
2. Students normally study one language for the award. Depending on prior learning and in consultation with the Program Director, some students may be allowed to take one or more courses in a second language.
3. Students taking languages other than English courses may undertake study abroad for credit towards this award up to a maximum of two courses (9 units), subject to prior approval from the Program Director.
4. In addition to the languages listed in the schedule of courses, students may take other languages by cross-institutional enrolment up to a maximum of two courses (9 units). Such students may complete the requirements of the program by choosing additional courses from the program schedule of the Associate Degree in Languages and Culture Studies, from the Language and Culture Studies major or other courses as approved by the Program Director.
5. Students who have little or no previous knowledge of the language normally enrol in the first instance in the 1A language courses. Students who have completed Stage 2 SACE language studies or equivalent normally enrol first in the 2A language courses.
6. Post Stage 2 SACE students who wish to complete 36 units in the one language should refer to the major for more information on additional courses available: English as an Additional Language, French Studies, Italian Studies, Japanese Studies.
7. Currently only Italian is available fully online as well as in internal and external modes.
8. Professional Language Application Project A can be taken in the same Study Period as Language 3A/4A. Professional Language Application Project B can be taken in the same Study Period as Language 3B/4B.
9. Languages In-Country will be studied in-country (in a country that is appropriate for the target language).
