Course aim

To advance students’ spoken and written communication in English with an emphasis on English as an international language of wider communication

Course content

Students will explore and review the historical and social as well as the political and economic circumstances which have contributed towards the internationalisation of English. This course will offer students insights into the relationship amongst English and other international languages of wider communication and also languages used at regional and local levels. Practice-based aspects of the course will inlcude opportunities to specialise in the use of English in education, international trade, development, diplomacy and international relations. Emphasis will be placed on: independent research, analytical and critical writing and presentation skills appropriate to the international use of English.
