Entry requirements

Applicants are required to:
- hold a Bachelor degree in a health science area from a recognised higher education institution or equivalent qualification; AND
- have a minimum of one year full-time, or equivalent, work/professional/clinical experience in a health science related area, following completion of the undergraduate degree;
OR
- have successfully completed the Graduate Certificate in Health Science offered by the University of South Australia, or an equivalent qualification from another Australian university

Aim

The program provides health professionals with qualifications in their professional fields of practice, advances their knowledge of professional issues and develops their ability to independently undertake workplace based projects or research.

Content & Structure

The program requires completion of 54 units of study. The first 18 units enable students to explore an area of extended or advanced practice relevant to their discipline and work practices or to study a topic that gives them knowledge required for a senior role in their organisation. In the remaining 36 units, students take 9 units of foundation research courses and select a pathway of study which will include either 27 units of research project courses or workplace based project courses.

Rules & notes

Rules

1. Students who have successfully completed the Graduate Certificate in Health Science or Graduate Diploma of Health Science offered by the University of South Australia (or equivalent) will be granted 18 units of advanced standing and will commence the program from level 2.

2. Students must complete 18 units in Level 1 before commencing courses in Level 2.

3. Students must select either the Research or Project pathway of study from this point in their program.

4. Students undertaking this pathway must have written agreement from a suitably qualified member of staff that they are willing to supervise the student for the duration of the pathway.

5. Students must hold Registration as a Podiatrist with AHPRA to undertake this course.

Notes

1. The program is normally completed in 18 months full-time or the part-time equivalent and is only available through external/online delivery. International students may only study in their home country by external/online delivery. All courses are offered subject to achieving viable enrolment numbers and therefore may not be offered every year.
