Admission criteria
The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.
Certain conditions apply. For more information refer to Appendix 4 of the University's Selection and Entry policy.
Students who enter either the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science or Bachelor of Pharmacy program may become eligible to enter the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science, Bachelor of Pharmacy double degree.
Eligibility will be dependent on academic performance on completion of the first two years of either the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science or the Bachelor of Pharmacy program. To be offered a place in the double degree, students will be required to have achieved a credit average or above for their first two years of full-time equivalent study.
For students awarded credit for courses on entry into the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science or Bachelor of Pharmacy program, to be eligible for entry into the double degree they must have completed, with a credit average or above, at least 36 units of study at the University of South Australia in the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science or Bachelor of Pharmacy program. No further credit will be awarded for courses in the double degree.
For students who are awarded credit for courses on entry into their the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science or Bachelor of Pharmacy degree, a minimum of 36 units unique to each of the contributing degrees (a total of at least 72 units) must be completed at the University of South Australia.

Application to the double degree follows completion of two years study in either the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science or the Bachelor of Pharmacy programs. Applicants would need to meet the English Language entry requirements appropriate to those awards. Aim
The double degree program develops the disciplines that underpin the discovery, development, formulation, approval, evaluation and marketing, and therapeutic use of medicines.
Content & Structure
The specific program structure will vary depending on whether students commence their studies in the Bachelor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science program.
On completion of the double degree, all students will have developed knowledge and skills in the scientific disciplines that underpin the discovery, formulation, approval, evaluation, marketing and clinical use of medicines. This knowledge will be integrated to enable students to operate in a range of workplace environments related to the development and rational use of medicines. The double degree requires completion of 180 units of study in total.

Rules & notes
Rules
1. All students in the Division of Health Sciences who, as part of their program, undertake activities where interaction with patients / the public is required, such as in field or clinical placements / visits and in University clinics and gyms, must demonstrate that they have a Department for Communities and Social Inclusion National Criminal History Record Check, which will be current for the duration of that activity. Interstate student placements require a National Police Certificate.
2. Student registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia is required in order to study this program.
3. Students are required to satisfy the standards of dress and behaviour prescribed by institutions and facilities in which clinical or field placements are undertaken. Failure to satisfy such requirements may prevent them satisfying the requirements for completion of the program.
4. Students who achieve a credit standard or higher (which must include > 54 units captured within the Pharmacy program courses) may be considered for the Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours program. A GPA-based ranked quota will apply for places in the Honours program. A conditional invitation to students who meet these requirements will be made after the resolution of academic results at the end of Study Period 2 of fourth year. This offer is conditional upon students maintaining a credit average through to the completion of fourth year.
5. Students accepting the conditional offer of an Honours position must enrol and successfully complete PHAR 3023 Research and Evidence in Pharmacy in order to be eligible to enrol in the Pharmacy Honours Project in the fifth year of the program.
6. The conduct of the Honours program will be in accordance with University policy. Students who successfully complete the Honours program will be awarded the degrees of Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours and Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science.
Notes
1. Students are advised that they may be required to spend at least one clinical or field placement outside Adelaide.
2. Students are required to undertake professional placements in registered pharmacies or accredited institutions and some of these placements may be held outside the normal teaching weeks of the University.
3. Students are strongly encouraged to study full-time. Students seeking part-time study must discuss this with the Program Director prior to enrolment. Part-time students are normally expected to complete the program in eight years or less.
4. Students may be required to undertake industry placement in this course at any time throughout the year.
5. Electives must be chosen from Groups 1 - 3 (listed). Students may choose elective courses from any of those listed in the groups but are advised that electives may be affected by timetabling or pre-requisites, and may only be offered if there is sufficient demand.

7. In consultation with the Program Director, students will choose one 4.5 optional course from the range of University electives or from other available courses.
