To continue to develop knowledge and skills required for contribution to pharmacy practice in a primary health context.
This course provides an introduction to issues in pharmacy practice, particularly as they relate to the provision of unscheduled, Pharmacy Only and Pharmacist Only medications. Aspects of this include: the scheduling of medicines to enable a student to be involved in the appropriate supply of Pharmacy Only and Pharmacist Only medicines in a professional manner; application of the basic psychology of health behaviours in the context of medicine use; the management of minor illness in primary health care settings particularly as it relates to Pharmacy Only and Pharmacist Only medicines including those relevant to: simple analgesia; gastrointestinal disorders; ear, nose and throat; cough and cold; fungal infections; basic dermatology; further development of tools necessary for the practice of pharmacy: oral and written communication skills required for the provision of medicines in a quality use of medicines framework; retrieval and appraisal information about medicines and health.
