Course aim

This course is designed to expose students to the key determinants of the global business environment. It examines how the macro business environment is shaped by the interaction between globalisation/regionalisation and governments and international agencies such as the World Trade Organisation. It then identifies how the global business environment may influence business strategy and operations in the international arena, culminating in the analysis of corporate capabilities essential for participation in international business.

  • Forces and key players in the international business environment;
  • Globalisation and the rise of regionalism;
  • International trade theories and government policies;
  • The regulation of international business activities: the emergence of international institutions (WTO/World Bank);
  • International trading arrangements;
  • Product development and supply chain management;
  • Developing capabilities for success in the global business environment.
