Course aim

The aim of the course is to enable students to analyse the various approaches to planning in the development of tourism as major social, environmental and economic activities. This course also aims to enable students to assess the importance of political, physical and social environments to the tourism policy, planning and development process.

Course content

Understanding tourism policy, planning and development; key actors in tourism policy and planning; policy instruments, implementation and evaluation; tourism planning processes; local, national and regional policy and planning; cases in policy and planning including protected areas and Indigenous development; community-based planning and empowerment; policy and planning for sustainability; challenges and issues.
