Admission criteria

The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.

To be eligible for selection, applicants are required to have:

Completed the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE); and

completed 200 credits of subjects;
achieved a grade of C* or better in the Personal Learning Plan, 20 credits of literacy, 10 credits of numeracy and the Research Project at Stage 2;
achieved a grade C- or better in an additional 60 credits at Stage 2;
obtained a competitive ATAR.

* For Stage 2 subjects a grade of C- or better is required

Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for University entry under SACE and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma, obtaining a minimum score of 24 points and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Certificate IV or above and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Qualified for Special Entry and fulfilled any prerequisite requirements;
Completed the University Foundation Studies program

* Normally applicants with a grade point average of 4** or better will be recognised for entry.

In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Aim

The Bachelor of Business (International Business, Finance and Trade), Bachelor of International Relations double degree program develops:

students' professional-level business knowledge and skills needed to conduct business in a global and multicultural environment;
knowledge and a capacity for critical reflection and professionally-relevant interdisciplinary analysis in international relations and intercultural comparative studies; and
basic communication skills in a foreign language.

Content & Structure

The Bachelor of Business (Intenational Business, Finance and Trade), Bachelor of International Relations double degree requires completion of courses totalling 144 units. The double degree program assumes that: the common Division of Business core courses provide a foundation for both degrees; the general studies sub-major and elective requirements for the arts degree are fulfilled by the international business major; the cognate requirements for the arts degree are fulfilled by language studies; and communication and contrasting studies requirements for the business degree are met by a communication course in the division core, the language cognate and the professional major in international relations. Rules

1. The program comprises: a Division of Business core of eight courses which are offered in both the first and second half of the year; a professional major sequence of six courses specific to the International Business Finance and Trade program and three business electives from within a professional business sequence (see Note 6); an International Relations professional major sequence of eight courses; four courses in a language other than English (or English as a foreign language courses for overseas students from a non-English speaking background); and an International Study Experience consisting of 18 units of approved study in languages or World Politics or business at an overseas university or a Hawke Ambassador International Volunteer Experience; or four courses chosen from International Studies or two courses of further study of a language and two World Politics courses.

2. Credit is granted for relevant studies completed at a tertiary educational institution or equivalent level. Maximum credit granted is half the courses of the program (ie 72 units). Furthermore, students are required to undertake at least 36 units from the Business component and at least 36 units from the International Relations component (including international relations, languages and the overseas study option if it is taken).

3. Graduates of the Bachelor of Business (International Business, Finance and Trade) or Bachelor of International Relations are eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Management/Bachelor of International Relations

4. Students may transfer from the Bachelor of Business (International Business, Finance and Trade), Bachelor of International Relations double degree program to either the Bachelor of Business (International Business, Finance and Trade) or the Bachelor International Relations.

5. Students must choose three electives from within the following business sequence options (see electives pool): A: Applied Economics and Public Policy; B: International Marketing and Management; or C: Applied Finance.

Notes

1. This course is one of the compulsory Division of Business core of eight courses. All Division of Business core courses will be offered in both the first half and the second half of the year.

2. This course is one of the major sequence of six courses specific to International Business.

3. This course must be completed in the professional major in International Relations. The four optional strands of the International Relations Professional Major are: Asia and the World; or Forces in World Politics; or Peace and Security; or Politics, Policy and Risk. Students complete one of the four optional strands. Each strand consists of three required courses and are listed in the electives pool above. World Politics courses required in the International Relations Professional Major strand chosen by a student then become International Relations Professional major courses for that student, and cannot be double-counted as World Politics electives by that student.

4. This course is a surrogate for one of the four languages courses which are chosen by students from one of the languages taught by academic staff of the University of South Australia (French, Italian or Japanese) or from those available by cross-institutional cooperation (including Mandarin Chinese, German, Modern Greek, Indonesian or Spanish) under arrangements approved by the Languages Coordinator. Overseas students from non-English speaking backgrounds may take 18 units of coursework in English as an Additional Language in place of 18 units in a language other than English. Students may vary to the extent of completing 9 units of foreign language studies (2 courses) and 9 units of World Politics electives (2 courses).

5. The four courses in the first half of third year may be 18 units of studies in languages or World Politics or business or management at an overseas university as an International Study Experience. A Hawke Ambassador International Volunteer Experience is an alternative overseas option. If an international experience option is not taken, students complete four World Politics courses or two courses of further study of a language and two World Politics courses. If an overseas option is not taken, in combination with note 4, students may vary to the extent of completing 9 units of foreign language studies (2 courses) and a total of 27 units of World Politics electives (6 courses) or a total of 27 units of foreign language studies (6 courses) and 9 units of World Politics electives (2 courses). The World Politics courses may be chosen from the World Politics general studies major/minor courses.

6. The Program Director of the Bachelor of Business (Economics, Finance and Trade), Bachelor of International Relations double degree is appointed by the School of Commerce. The Program Director of the Bachelor fo Business (Economics, Finance and Trade), Bachelor of International Relations double degree consults with the Program Director of the Bachelor of International Relations for the International Relations undergraduate components of the double degree program.
