In the midst of a global pandemic, population health has never been more in focus. In the new Bachelor of Biomedical Science, you’ll explore the complex world of human health and disease under the guidance of industry experts.
In this three-year program, immerse yourself in biomedical research and gain skills to be used in clinical trials. Develop advanced knowledge in physiology, biochemistry, immunology, pharmacology, molecular biology, genomics and bioinformatics. You’ll get to learn alongside internationally-recognised researchers in cancer biology, vaccine development, genetics and neuroscience.
For high school students only: You'll be well placed to study the Bachelor of Biomedical Science if you have completed Biology, Chemistry or Physics in year 12. This isn't a prerequisite for entry, however it will provide you with background knowledge which will be advantageous to your undergraduate studies.
Along with fundamental knowledge in biomedical sciences, you can choose pathways into further study in biomedical research and other health professions. Throughout your degree, you’ll:
During your final year, you'll complete an industry research project for 13 weeks in an active research laboratory.
You'll get to network with potential employers from your first year during biomedical training, including companies such as Sementis and government agencies specialising in biomedical research.
By investigating the causes and effect of disease on the normal structure and functions of the human body, Biomedical Scientists perform a key role in our health system.

Along with being Program Director for this degree, I am a senior scientist in the Mechanisms in Cell Biology and Disease research group at UniSA. I have had the privilege to attend and present our research findings at several international conferences, interacting with many amazing patients and their families, clinicians and scientists. This truly reinforces to me why I continue to do what I do. I bring this passion through to my teaching, both with research degree supervision and courses in Human Physiology.

Postgraduate study by research

There is no closing date for submitting your application however the admissions process takes between one and three weeks from the date that we receive your application and all required supporting documentation.

You may be eligible to receive credit or advanced standing for your chosen UniSA degree based on your previous studies, if they are in a related area at an equivalent or higher level. Receiving credit will reduce the number of courses you undertake within the degree, and may also reduce the overall duration of your degree.
The amount of credit you may be eligible to receive is assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Admissions team.
