Applicants are required to meet one of the following criteria with a competitive result, and demonstrate that they fulfil any prerequisite requirements and essential requirements for admission:
Recent secondary education
Meet any prerequisite requirements with a minimum grade of C- or equivalent
AND
Applicants who have not achieved the Selection Rank required for automatic selection may be selected for any remaining places based on the grades of their year 12 subjects.

The Bachelor of Secondary Education (Honours) (Mount Gambier) is a four year degree that meets national registration requirements. Preservice teachers complete 144 units of study, comprising 10 core courses (58.5 units), 4 curriculum courses (18 units), 1 elective course (4.5 units), plus a major of 8 courses (36 units) and a sub-major of 6 courses (27 units) in two of the following subject areas:
English
Humanities and Social Sciences (History, Geography)
Digital Technologies (sub-major only)
Psychology (sub-major only)
The first school placement is undertaken in the first 6 months of study. There is also an option to complete a placement overseas and/or study tours in the Asia Pacific region.
The program structure enables preservice teachers to develop a broad and coherent body of knowledge coupled with the professional capacities to be responsive to the changing and challenging demands of being a secondary school teacher.
From 4 August 2025, the University of South Australia will no longer be accepting applications for new students. Study at Adelaide University.
