Course aim

The course aims to provide managers with a broad understanding of legal issues that may arise in business dealings with a wide range of stakeholders, including business partners, financiers, employees, contractors, customers, competitors, regulators and the public. In doing so, the course challenges students to consider how legal risks can be minimised whilst simultaneously achieving value-enhancing organisational objectives.

Course content

The legal system and business; Regulators; Business structures and partners in business; Financing: bankers, financiers, shareholders; Employees: workplace relations, OH&S; Customers: advertising, consumer protection, product safety; Suppliers: contracts, tenders, outsourcing, value chain obligations; Society: business impacts on society and legal implications; Environment: business impacts on the environment and legal implications; Competitors: competition law.
