Course aim

To introduce students to the areas of student diversity and special education with a focus on student development.

Course content

Introduction to the area of special needs, exceptionality, disability and student diversity focusing on inclusive educational practice for maximising outcomes and holistic wellbeing of all students. Emphasis is given to the relationship between theory and practice through connecting seminars, online lectures and weekly reading with practice based service learning and an inquiry project. First hand experience with students with special education and diverse needs, aims to promote connections with all stakeholders. Familiarisation of current legislative, ethical and policy requirements and implications for educators, families and support agencies.
