Course aim

This course aims to enable students to critically analyse emerging issues in the global tourism industry and identify management implications from the issues.

Course content

This course is designed to be responsive to the emerging trends and issues in tourism in the Asia Pacific region. A flexible approach will make it possible to introduce emerging issues. Indicative topics include: climate change and its impact on tourism; SME entrepreneurship and innovation in tourism; growing significance of China and India as outbound travel markets; crisis management in tourism: natural disasters, epidemics and terrorist attacks; Special interest tourism: MICE, medical and wellness tourism and volunteer tourism; impact of globalisation on tourism and local communities; cultural distances; and destination marketing.
