About the program

For year 10 students

The Careers Compass 10 (CC10) Program utilises UniSA initial teacher education and psychology students, to empower your entire Year 10 cohort by facilitating personalised one-on-one 30-minute life and career aspiration guidance chats. CC10 is designed to enhance the Year 10 SACE Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF) subject and is delivered across four sessions at your school site for one consistent day over four consecutive weeks for the entirety of the school day.

These chats will assist Year 10 students in gaining clarity about their future life aspirations beyond school. They will provide guidance about strengths, values, live motivators, goals, career aspirations, career-ready skills, Vocational Education Training (VET) interests, School Based Apprenticeship (SBA) interest, and a wish list of Year 11 and 12 subject choices tailored to your school. These chats can be utilised as evidence within the EIF assessment tasks at the school's discretion.

Participating schools will receive individualised student reports created from each student’s one-on-one guidance chat record, a collated spreadsheet containing all the Year 10 students’ chat records, and a Year 10 cohort-wide statistical summary report based on how your students have responded, including senior subject interests, VET interest, and SBA interest.

As part of the program, UniSA students can also be utilised to provide your teachers and school students with curriculum support in a classroom support role, where possible. UniSA students can work one-on-one with school students and in small groups to assist in supporting and completing schoolwork under teacher supervision and guidance.

What will students do?

As part of the program, students will meet with a UniSA student mentor to discuss who they are as a person, life aspirations and career aspirations. Students will be lead through discussions around their strengths, values, live motivators, goals, career aspirations, career-ready skills, Vocational Education Training (VET) interests, School Based Apprenticeship (SBA) interest, and a wish list of Year 11 and 12 subject choices tailored to your school.
