The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.
Applicants are required to meet one of the following criteria with a competitive result, and demonstrate that they fulfil any prerequisite requirements and essential requirements for admission:
Recent secondary education
Meet any prerequisite requirements with a minimum grade of C- or equivalent
AND
Qualify for the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE), and achieved a competitive Selection Rank (ATAR), or
Complete secondary qualifications equivalent to SACE, or
Complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum score of 24 points
Applicants who have not achieved the Selection Rank required for automatic selection may be selected for any remaining places based on the grades of their year 12 subjects.
OR Higher education study
Complete or partly complete a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution, or
Complete at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at undergraduate level or above
OR Vocational Education and Training (VET)
Complete an award from a registered training organisation at Certificate IV or above
OR Work and life experience
Qualify for Special Entry, or
Complete a 12-month UniSA Foundation Studies program or equivalent, or
Hold completed secondary qualifications equivalent to SACE obtained more than 2 years in the past

Flight training is taught separately to this degree via the Graduate Diploma in Aviation. There are a number of entry requirements that must be fulfilled before you can begin. Please read the Graduate Diploma in Aviation page carefully.
On-campus teaching for this program is based at the Mawson Lakes campus. Only 20 minutes from the city centre with easy parking. The Mawson Lakes campus is also accessible by bus and train with the Mawson Lakes train station only a short walk.

What you'll learn
You will undertake general studies in aviation including an introduction to human factors and safety management systems. You will do Flight Training Theory 1 and Commercial Pilot Theory, taught by instructors from the flight training provider. These courses prepare you for CASA Commercial Pilot Licence theory examinations.
As your studies progress you will explore more advanced and theoretical areas including meteorology, law, human factors and aspects of the flight and performance of large aircraft systems. You will also study communication and aviation management. Your technical studies will include aerodynamics, heavy aircraft systems, navigation and risk and safety management.
Over the course of the degree, you can select up to three electives from the Bachelor of Aviation (Management) degree and other aviation-related electives.
Flight training is done via the Graduate Diploma in Aviation and there are a number of entry requirements that must be fulfilled before you can begin. Please read the Graduate Diploma in Aviation page carefully.
1. Students are required to progress through the Bachelor of Aviation (Pilot) program in accordance with their Program Director's advice. Students intending to apply for the Graduate Diploma in Aviation are advised that enrolment in Bachelor of Aviation (Pilot) courses outside of Program Director guidance may result in disqualification from the Graduate Diploma in Aviation.

1.
The University Elective is a course that students freely choose from any area of the University, generally outside of their specialist field of study. Students must choose one Undergraduate Elective based on availability and fulfilment of any prerequisites.
2. Other elective options not listed here may only be taken with Program Director approval.
3. Students must attend 80%* of their scheduled workshops to be considered for entry into LGAN Graduate Diploma in Aviation.
*Students must provide evidence of medical or compassionate grounds for not meeting this limit.
4. This course should be completed in the study period preceding the commencement of LGAN Graduate Diploma in Aviation. Students who complete this course prior to admission may be disqualified from entry into the Graduate Diploma. Students who are yet to be accepted into the Graduate Diploma should seek enrolment advice from the Program Director.
5. Enrolment in this course is limited to one attempt only. Students who do not pass this course will undertake an aviation elective course instead by requesting an updated study plan.
6. Credit will not be granted for the course Commercial Pilot Theory (AERO 2064) for students concurrently enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Aviation or for those who intend to apply to study for the Graduate Diploma in Aviation. Students not intending on enrolling in Graduate Diploma in Aviation may be eligible for a maximum of 4.5 units of unspecified credit and undertake 9 units of study as a course substitution in lieu of the course, and in consultation with the Program Director.
7. Students must attend 80% of their scheduled workshops to be eligible to remain in the LGAN Graduate Diploma in Aviation by meeting CASA integrated timeline requirements for their flight training. *Students must provide evidence of medical or compassionate grounds for not meeting this limit. In addition, students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Aviation are advised not to undertake any other courses while completing AERO 2064 and request a new study plan.
8. This course is delivered in intensive mode.
9. Students commencing with mid-year enrolment who intend to undertake Flight Training through the Graduate Diploma in Aviation (LGAN) will need to undertake an elective instead of AERO 1021 in first year, and enrol in AERO 1021 in second year. Please contact the Program Director for further details.
Study hours
For each course you study, you will need to allocate time for various classes such as lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminars and practicals. Plus you will need additional hours to study in your own time to complete assignments, readings and projects, as well as to contribute to online discussion forums (independent study). So as a general rule, if you are studying full-time you would need to allocate 12–26 hours of study when at university and 14–28 hours of independent study per week.

Your study spaces
The UniSA Aviation Academy at Parafield Airport is fully equipped for flight training with networked classrooms, simulators housed in climate and sound-controlled rooms, and aircraft maintenance hangars. There is also a student lounge, briefing rooms for one-on-one time with instructors, and a flight planning area.
An operations room is staffed by qualified personnel who maintain a ‘flight watch’ service for all FTA aircraft in the air. Students have immediate access to weather, NOTAMS and other flight planning data as required.

I’m an academic leading the UniSA’s aviation program. I teach courses and conduct research into aviation, especially on airlines and airports. My colleagues and I work on projects across all aspects in aviation, thereby enabling relevance and connections with the industry. Our aviation team comprises of experts in specific aviation sub-sectors such as flight operations, human factors, airport management and accident investigation. Both our industry collaboration and technical knowledge enable our coursework and materials to be distinctive in satisfying the needs of the ever-changing industry and ensuring academic excellence.

There is no closing date for submitting your application however the admissions process takes between one and three weeks from the date that we receive your application and all required supporting documentation.
If you are completing an Australian year 12 qualification in Australia or overseas, or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme in Australia, you must apply through SATAC. Key dates for applications can be found here.
You may be eligible to receive credit or advanced standing for your chosen UniSA degree based on your previous studies, if they are in a related area at an equivalent or higher level. Receiving credit will reduce the number of courses you undertake within the degree, and may also reduce the overall duration of your degree.
The amount of credit you may be eligible to receive is assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Admissions team.
