Admission criteria

The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.

Certain conditions apply. For more information refer to Appendix 4 of the University's Selection and Entry policy.

To be eligible for selection, applicants are required to have:

Completed the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE); and

completed 200 credits of subjects;
achieved a grade of C* or better in the Personal Learning Plan, 20 credits of literacy, 10 credits of numeracy and the Research Project at Stage 2;
achieved a grade C- or better in an additional 60 credits at Stage 2;
obtained a competitive ATAR.

* For Stage 2 subjects a grade of C- or better is required

Alternatively, the minimum educational requirements may be met by those who have fulfilled prerequisite requirements and have one of the following qualifications:

Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma;
Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution;
Completed a recognised diploma or associated diploma from TAFE or Certificate IV level course;
Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level;
Qualified for Special Entry; or
Completed the University Foundation Program;

Completed one of the following professional courses:

Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
MCSE + Internet and Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD)
Lotus Certified Professional (CLP)
Novell Certified NetWare Engineer (CNE)
Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA)
Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP)

In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

Aim

To prepare graduates for employment in business and government as managers who can contribute to contemporary organisations by improving business processes and functions through the planning, implementation and management of information technology.

Content & Structure

This program has two plans, with both plans containing core courses in business and management of information technology (81 units), a professional enrichment course (4.5 units). The "Industry Project" Plan has an industry based project (9 units) and a choice of three courses (13.5 units) from either business or management of IT. The "Industry Placement" plan has an industry placement (9 units) and three specified business and management of IT courses (13.5 units). High achieving students can transfer to the "Industry Placement Plan" at the end of second year by application and by passing and interview.

Notes

1. Places for the ICT Specialist Industry Project will be limited and students will be selected based on academic merit and an interview process. Students should enrol in ICT Project if they are not offered a place in ICT Specialist Industry Project.

2. The courses Business Intelligence and Enterprise Data Mining, Information Technology Business Practice, and Information Security Management can, with the approval of the Program Director, be replaced by three courses from Commerce, Marketing or Management.

3. The Elective course can be selected from any School within the University.

4. Students who have studied either course in the following list, will be deemed to have completed the core course requirement only for the purposes of: transition, program transfer, double degrees and transnational programs where a limited range of courses may be available: and granting of credit for related diploma programs such as SAIBT and Eynesbury. Macroeconomics/Microeconomics/Economics Principles; Introduction to Law/Foundations of Business Law; Knowledge Management in Organisations/Business Information Systems/Communications and Information Systems in Business.
