To introduce current technologies and advanced topics in business intelligence (BI) and data mining (DM) from enterprise perspective, for the understanding and application of contemporary knowledge that satisfy user and business stakeholder requirements, reflect the enterprise needs of assimilated information and make best use of the available and foreseeable tools and technologies.
The challenge of turbulent business environment: overview, major issues and needs for business intelligence.
The BI lifecycle model and development approaches, the costs, benefits, ROI and user community of BI.
The components and comparison of various BI system architectures, data integration and the extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) processes, metadata and master data management, administration and security issues, multi-dimensional data modelling and implementation success factors.
Business analytics and business performance management: closed-loop processes linking strategy to execution, the link between corporate and BI strategy, differences between performance management and measurement.
Review of contemporary BI applications in various industries; privacy, ethical and legal issues.
The need of data mining technologies in competitive business environments.
Market basket analysis and association rule mining.
Modelling customer behaviours and predictions.
Clustering analysis and outlier detections.
Use of BI and DM tools in data analysis and knowledge discovery.
