Aim

To prepare graduates from a range of disciplines for advanced practice in areas involving conflict.

Content & Structure

To qualify for the Graduate Diploma students must complete the equivalent of 36 units, including the two core courses, four generic courses and two courses from their chosen specialisation.

Rules

1. No course which is substantially equivalent to a course taken in gaining another award may be included in the program of study.

2. Graduate Diploma students are required to complete two Core courses, at least four Generic courses and up to two courses from their chosen Specialisation.

3. This program is nested with the Graduate Certificate and Master of Mediation and Conflict Resolution and full credit will be given for all of the courses passed if students proceed to enrol in the Master of Mediation and Conflict Management.

Notes

1. The core course WELF 5081 Mediation Theory and Practice is a prerequisite for WELF 5082 Advanced Mediation Theory and Practice.

2. Students choosing Specialisation A: Family must complete two of the specified courses in First Year. They are also advised to choose WELF 5059 Interpersonal Violence from the Generic Course list. Where family law or children are not the student's focus another relevant course can be selected with permission from the Program Director and the Course Coordinator, for example a postgraduate course on Ageing.

3. Students choosing Specialisation B: Workplace Relations must complete WELF 5085 Managing Conflicts in the Workplace and one of the other specified courses in First Year.

4. Students choosing Specialisation C: International Relations must choose two courses from the courses in the Graduate Diploma in International Studies (MGIL) and are advised to choose HUMS 5020 Culture and Disputing from the Generic Course list.
