Course aim

To critically analyse the impact of culture and cultural diversity on conflict and disputing in a range of situations and contexts.

Course content

The dimensions of culture, cultural diversity and key cultural concepts; reflexivity, cultural competence and cultural fluency; cultural identities, ‘othering’ and prejudice; religion, culture and conflict; age, gender and conflict; contrasting and comparing cultures; dominant cultural discourses that contextualise conflict; globalisation, culture and conflict; intercultural communication; the impact of the group and organisation on cultural identity; culturally contextual models of creative conflict management; third party roles in cross-cultural conflict; conflicts involving human rights; indigenous and international perspectives.
