To introduce the participants to a wide range of discipline based ways in which “conflict” has been analysed in social science.
The nature of human nature; Hobbs; Spencer; Social Darwinism; Freud; Nietzsche; Behavioural approaches; Morton Deutsch; Alfi Cohn; Sociology of Conflict; Marx; Functionalism and Lewis Coser; Anthropology and Structural Functionalism, kinship analysis; Chagnon and ritual warfare; civil conflict and forms of reconciliation, the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission; culturally-based approaches to conflict.
