Course aim

To integrate at an advanced level, knowledge and skills gained across the first three years of the program and to prepare students for their Professional Placement experience by further development of the communication, technical and cognitive skills necessary for competent, safe and effective pharmacy practice at a level expected of an entry level pharmacy practitioner.

Course content

Further development of the legal and ethical dimensions of pharmacy practice; Simulated clinical scenarios for situations encountered in day-to-day practice (with consumers/clients, health professionals, and others ); problem-solving strategies to address the needs of complex clients/consumers; adapting communication to address challenging situations. Medication review and management; drug optimisation, therapeutic drug monitoring and chronic disease management. Delivery of core pharmacy services such as the controlled supply of prescription and non-prescription medicines including the manufacture of standard formulary and personalised extemporaneous formulations. Concise written communication to other health professionals.
