To study relevant contemporary theory and practices in arts education for secondary schooling, including reference to a range of approaches for diversity and inclusion.
Students will consider approaches to effective practices in arts education with consideration of the diverse needs of learners. Students will take topics including the arts as cultural education, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives; deconstructing the ‘deficit’ model, and working with differently abled learners. Students will deepen their understanding of arts pedagogies through detailed investigation of appropriate arts approaches, with reference to professional arts practices from across a range of cultures and/or created by differently abled artists. Students will undertake practical work demonstrating skills in relation to the Australian Curriculum, SACE curriculum and AITSL Professional Standards.
