Course aim

To enable students to demonstrate effective human service interviewing skills and their appropriate application.

Course content

A practice nexus - ethics in practice, critical thinking, core skills and resources, diversity, effectiveness, interviewing and change strategies; Anti oppressive, empowerment, strengths based practice and solution-focussed approach; Skill based learning ; Models of interviewing; identifying skills and processes in human service interviews; Developing the relationship; Collaborative assessment; Conceptualising and assessing client’s problems, concerns and contexts; Clinical decision making; Identifying, defining and evaluating outcome goals; Working with resistance; interviewing skills in diverse contexts and with a range of clients; Reflexive practice; Service delivery options.
