Course aim
To provide students with the theoretical foundations, knowledge and skills in subject cataloguing, classification and metadata schemas to organise resources in all formats to international standards to assist information discovery.
Course content
Theories, principles and practices of subject analysis and classification; the application of major classification schemes (DDC, LC Classification, UDC); the theoretical foundations, structure and application of international subject cataloguing schemes (LCSH, MeSH); research in the field of linked library data, ontologies, and the semantic web; and metadata architectures, schemas and applications for describing and organising digital collections.
