This course examines the types of arts and cultural festivals and events worldwide, exploring the history and significance of such events. It provides practical information and case studies on producing a live event or festival including management, programming, budgeting, contracting, obtaining funding, marketing, risk assessment and evaluation.
The syllabus covers the role, management and organisation of arts festivals and live events, including planning and management, programming, marketing, budgeting, income generation, grants and sponsorship, risk assessment and evaluation processes. The course will consider current case studies of successful arts festivals and events from Australia and overseas. The course will give students practical training in writing grant applications, budgeting live events (such as a major international opera) and developing a specialised marketing plan for an event. The strengths and weakness of arts festivals and events will be evaluated.
