Course aim

Develop an understanding of pain, advance clinical reasoning skills and introduce the principles of pain management within a multidisciplinary framework.

Course content

Current models for the clinical engagement of pain; the biopsychosocial model of pain; pain mechanisms and contributors; integration of the pain sciences into clinical reasoning models; pain deconstruction into pathobiological mechanisms; identification of risk factors for chronicity; assessment of pain, disability and recovery; principles of acute and chronic pain management; multidisciplinary pain management strategies; common pain conditions.
