Occupational Safety

Course aim

To familiarise students with the assessment, prevention and control of general safety risks common to many industry environments.

Course content

For each area of risk and required workplace management: confined spaces, working at heights, plant and structures, hazardous chemicals, electrical safety in the workplace and emergency management, the following will be covered:

• basic concept -- definitions, terminology, nature of hazards;
• relevant legislation and standards;
• prevention and control measures;
• emergency planning and response;
• monitoring and review
