Course aim

To introduce students to the theory and practice of Teaching English as A Second Language in the context of remote Aboriginal communities.

Course content

Exploring the various theories regarding how children learn to read and write; concepts of print and the development of a literacy set; fostering independence in reading and writing; issues in TESL; target languages and the unique problems facing Aboriginal children acquiring Standard English in community contexts.
