Course aim

This course contextualises the work of the arts manager in relation to its environment, its expectations and its stakeholders, focusing in particular on working with people. It addresses the specialised knowledge and skills required for effective arts management.

Course content

This course focuses on the organisation and management of the arts. It addresses why managing the arts is different and the skills and knowledge required for managing creativity successfully. It addresses the roles of the arts manager, understanding individual difference, group dynamics and leadership skills, dealing with conflict, communication and presentation skills. It focuses on aspects of human resource management, industrial issues, working with volunteers and boards of management in the arts context. It also addresses aspects of self management in the arts, including goal setting and vision achievement.
