Successful completion of a recognised bachelor degree, or an equivalent qualification. Applicants who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Environmental Management and Sustainability will also be eligible for entry.

Aim

The program prepares students for careers in a wide range of resource management agencies and industries and equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to take a leadership role and responsibility in those organisations.

Content & Structure

The Masters program requires the completion of 54 units of courses selected from one of the streams Water Management or Natural Resource Management. Students taking the Natural Resource Management stream can complete either:

four core courses (18 units), Environmental Research Project 1 and Environmental Research Project 2 (18 units), and four Natural Resource Management electives (18 units); OR
four core courses (18 units), four Natural Resource Management electives (18 units), and four electives from the Master of Environmental Management and Sustainability (Water Management).

Rules & notes

Rules

1. Credit will not normally be granted for more than one third of the total units of the program.

2. Students undertaking Environmental Research Projects 1 & 2 must have prior approval from the Program Director. Normally this will require a GPA of 6 or greater and demonstrated ability to undertake a research project. Students will normally enrol in these courses in their second year of study. Research topics will normally be identified earlier. Students must successfully complete Environmental Research Project 1 before they can commence Environmental Research Project 2.

3. The Graduate Diploma in Professional Practice (Environmental Management and Sustainability) provides a pathway for subsequent entry to this program and both awards can be completed in two years of full time study or part time equivalent.
