(Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education)
(Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education)
The Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) is a national requirement for all students enrolled in accredited teacher education programs in Australia.
Administered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), the test ensures that graduating teachers possess the literacy and numeracy skills required for professional practice.
From 2025 onwards, there is no limit to the number of attempts a student may make for each component (Literacy and Numeracy), though each attempt incurs a fee ($98 per component / $196 for both).
All students enrolled in UniSA's Bachelor of Education or Master of Teaching programs must successfully complete both the Literacy and Numeracy components of LANTITE before undertaking their final professional experience course.
Required: Students enrolled in LHEC, LHPE, LHSE, MHEC, MHPE, MMET, MBET programs are required to sit the LANTITE test.
Not Required: Students in the MBXC program are not required to complete the LANTITE test
We recommend attempting LANTITE early in your studies to ensure enough time to re-sit if needed. You must pass both components by the deadline specific to your program to be eligible for final-year placement.
LANTITE (Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education) plays a crucial role in ensuring that all pre-service teachers meet the required Literacy and Numeracy standards before they can complete their teaching program and participate in final year placements.
Here’s how LANTITE affects your course progression and placement eligibility:-
Mandatory Completion:
You must successfully complete both the Literacy and Numeracy components to progress through your program.
Final-Year Courses:
LANTITE is a prerequisite for enrolment in final-year placement courses.
Undergraduate students must pass both components to enrol in:
EDUC4206
– Professional Experience 4
EDUC4245
– Professional Experience 4
Master of Teaching students must pass both components to enrol in:
EDUC5293
– Early Childhood Professional Experience & Reflection (ECP Preschool)
EDUC5294
– Reflexive Practice & Professional Experience 2 (RP2)
You cannot commence final-year placements unless you have passed both components of the LANTITE test.
If you haven’t passed by your final-year placement deadline, you won’t be eligible to begin placement—even if other requirements are met.
No pass = no placement. You will need to re-sit and pass both components before you can participate in your final-year professional experience.
No extensions or exceptions:
The Placement Office cannot accommodate delays caused by LANTITE. Missing the test or failing to meet the deadline could delay:
Your placement
Your graduation
While you have unlimited attempts, delaying the test puts your course progression and graduation at risk.
We strongly recommend sitting LANTITE as early as possible in your studies to:
Allow time for multiple attempts if needed
Avoid delays in final-year courses or placements
LANTITE is offered multiple times each year. The test windows below are tentative and subject to change. To confirm the latest dates, please refer to the official ACER website.
You must register via the ACER website during the specified registration period to be eligible to sit the test.
