(Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education)
The Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) is a National requirement for all students enrolled in accredited teacher education programs in Australia. The test is administered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and ensures that graduating teachers have the Literacy and Numeracy skills required for professional practice.
From 2025 onwards, there is no limit to the number of attempts a student may make to successfully complete the LANTITE test.
LANTITE comprises two components: Literacy and Numeracy. Students are permitted unlimited attempts for each component; however, a fee is applicable for each sitting. The cost is $98.00 (GST inclusive) per component or $196.00 (GST inclusive) for both components. Fees are paid directly to ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) at the time of registration.
Students enrolled in the LHEC, LHPE, LHSE, MHEC, MHPE, MMET and MBET programs are required to sit the LANTITE test.
Students enrolled in the MBXC program are not required to complete the LANTITE test.
All students enrolled in UniSA's Bachelor of Education or Master of Teaching programs must successfully complete both the Literacy and Numeracy components of LANTITE before undertaking their final professional experience course.
We recommend attempting LANTITE early in your studies to ensure enough time to re-sit if needed. You must pass both components by the deadline specific to your program to be eligible for final-year placement.
LANTITE (Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education) plays a crucial role in ensuring that all pre-service teachers meet the required Literacy and Numeracy standards before they can complete their teaching program and participate in final year placements.
Here’s how LANTITE affects your course progression and placement eligibility:-
For example, students in undergraduate programs must pass both components to be eligible for EDUC4206 or EDUC4245 Professional Experience 4. For Master of Teaching students, passing LANTITE is a prerequisite for EDUC5293 Early Childhood Professional Experience & Reflection (ECP Preschool) or EDUC5294 Reflexive Practice & Professional Experience 2 (RP2)
If you fail LANTITE, you will not be able to start your final-year placements until both components are passed.
The Placement Office cannot make accommodations for students who fail LANTITE, as placement scheduling is dependent on successful test completion. If your results are delayed (for example if you take the test in the final year), it may delay your placement and graduation.
Unlimited Attempts:-
You have unlimited attempts for each component of the test. However, delaying the test may result in your graduation being postponed if you do not meet the LANTITE requirements in time for your final placement courses.
To ensure smooth progression through your teacher education program and timely completion of placements, it is recommended that you attempt LANTITE as early as possible in your studies. Failing to pass the test in time can delay both your placements and your ability to graduate.
LANTITE is offered multiple times each year. The test windows below are tentative and subject to change. To confirm the latest dates, please refer to the official ACER website.
You must register via the ACER website during the specified registration period to be eligible to sit the test.
