Preparing for your professional experience involves understanding both mandatory requirements and additional resources that can support your placement. This page includes optional resources on first aid training, workplace safety, and other useful topics. While not all sections are required, they can help you feel more confident and prepared for your placement.

  • alert-large In the event of INCIDENT or INJURY to Preservice Teachers minus-thin plus-thin
    • In the event of Incident or Injury, follow these steps minus-thick plus-thick
      • Step 1 Follow the individual site’s policy and procedure with regards to immediately dealing with the injury or incident
      • Step 2 PST to notify the Professional Experience Office, and University Supervisor of the incident or Injury. If the PST is unable to do this due to injury or incident then it is the Site Coordinator’s or delegated site personnel responsibility to do so
      • Step 3 The Professional Experience Office will notify your Course Coordinator
      • Step 4 The Course Coordinator will notify via email any incident involving, or causing injury to a PST on any University approved activity to the Insurance Office.
      • Step 5 The Course Coordinator will contact the PST and site, and following the discussion will submit an incident report to UniSA Work Health & Safety
      • Step 6 The Professional Experience Office will forward the PST a copy of the UniSA Student Incident Report FS24 form. The PST will need to complete all sections (including all relevant signatures). The PST will return all relevant documentation to edc-placement@unisa.edu.au and also to insurance@unisa.edu.au
      • Step 7 The Professional Experience Office or Course Coordinator will forward
        • Copies of any additional documentation and the Student Incident Report (FS24) Form to Program Director and Course Coordinator
        • A copy of the Student Incident Report (FS24) Form will be sent to askcampuscentral@unisa.edu.au with the Student ID in subject line to be filed on the central record and also uploaded against the student record in InPlace
      • Step 8 Dependant on the nature of the injury or illness the PST may be required to provide a medical clearance indicating that they are fit to return to their Professional Experience placement.

    Preservice teachers are no longer required to complete First Aid Training for Education Courses, including the Early Childhood strand. However, having this training can be beneficial, as it is often required when seeking employment.
