- A completed four-year Bachelors degree with Honours in civil engineering or a related discipline from a recognised higher education institution or equivalent; OR
- A completed Graduate Certificate in a Civil Engineering, or related discipline from a recognised higher education institution
Applicants who hold a degree in one of the following disciplines such as, Mechanical, Mining or Environmental Engineering may also be eligible and will be assessed on a case by case basis.
English language entry requirements
In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

The Master of Engineering (Civil and Environmental) aims to provide graduates and current practitioners with an advanced level of knowledge and skills in a range of areas relevant to the water and environmental sectors of Civil Engineering.
Content & Structure
The program requires completion of 27 units of core courses and 9 units of elective courses in water and environmental engineering. On completion of these courses students should be able to:
Apply and synthesise water and environmental engineering theories in solving practical cases
Create and design models to be used in areas such as water resources and water quality management
Adapt hydro - environmental data analysis methods at advanced level
Integrate modelling technology and consolidate GIS applications in forming comprehensive water resources management systems
Develop advanced skills to communicate with water and environmental related professionals
1. No credit is available in this program. Where students have previously completed a similar course in another program, they may be granted permission to substitute an alternative course with the agreement of the Program Director.
Notes
1. Civil Engineering Research Project must be taken in the final study period of a student's program. It is offered in both SP2 and SP5 each year. Hence, students who commence the program mid-year will take two electives in SP5 and replace the two electives in SP2 shown in the schedule with the Civil Engineering Research Project.
