Rules
1. Courses listed in this program as cross institutional enrolments are subject to the University's normal limits on recognition of prior learning (a maximum of one third of the unit value of the Masters degree, or 18 units). Therefore, in addition to the prescribed cross-institutional courses, Masters students may choose up to three additional elective courses that are available as cross-institutional enrolments.
2. The elective courses will be chosen from a prescribed list of available options.
3. The Program Director has the discretion to vary the rules for elective choice.
Notes
1. For the project component of this course, students will undertake work directly associated with their place of employment. It is a requirement of this program that they will nominate a supervisor from their place of employment, in addition to their university supervisor. The project component of this course is intended to address problems that are directly relevant to the student¿s employer and to the student¿s specialisation in this program.
2. The primary mode of delivery for the courses in this program is a blend of synchronous and asynchronous online delivery. However, each course includes a one-day, face-to-face workshop. Workshops take place over two days in early February and late July. One day is devoted to each course that follows in the subsequent six month period. Workshops will normally take place at the campus of the University that is responsible for delivery of the course in question. In the event that a student is unable to travel to attend the workshop, alternative mechanisms exist to make the course content available to the student. This includes recording of sessions and providing students with copies of lecturer material. However, students are strongly encouraged to attend the workshops, and to make this requirement known to their employer.
3. It is expected that all students in this program will study part-time. Students will normally study a maximum of four courses in a given calendar year.
4. Subject to pre-requisite requirements, students may begin the program in either February (Study Period 1) or July (Study Period 5).
5. Courses in this program are offered in study periods 1, 3, 5 and 7.
6. Students may choose as an elective any course, in any stream, of the Master of Engineering Practice award (including those offered by ANU), that the student has not undertaken, or will not undertake, as part of their defined program of study in the award, provided that any pre-requisite requirements are met, and subject to the approval of the Program Director. See Appendix 2 for a full list.
