To enable preservice teachers to teach outdoor education in a middle schooling setting.
Through observation and engagement in middle years outdoor and environmental education, preservice teachers will analyse the scope of learner needs to conceptualise and research teaching strategies to maximize the effectiveness of teaching and learning outdoor education. Focusing on the domains of outdoor skills and knowledge, human-nature relationships, conservation, sustainability, health and wellbeing preservice teachers will plan and teach sequential learning episodes that integrate curriculum areas such as Science, Humanities and Health and Physical Education and others. These episodes will enhance critical thinking, learning of personal and social capability, ethical and intercultural understanding; and address cross-curricular priorities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and culture as well as sustainable living.
