Drug Delivery for Clinical Trials

Course aim

To provide understanding of the formulation of polyphasic pharmaceutical dosage forms and the factors which influence their properties, stability and value as vehicles for the administration and application of drugs.

Course content

Overview of the types of pharmaceutical products and their physical forms; how they are presented and administered; shelf-life and storage; solution dosage forms; solubility and the process of dissolution; principles of quality control; methods for the analysis of drugs; polyphasic pharmaceutical dosage forms; interfacial phenomena; surfactants; polymers and macromolecules; coarse and colloidal dispersions; emulsions; creams; ointments; gels; pastes; suspensions; foams and aerosols; liposomes and newer polyphasic products under development; rheology; pharmaceutical microbiology (bioburden, preservation, and antiseptics and sterile preparations); pharmaceutical calculations.
