Course aim

To build on knowledge of how children learn mathematics and science gained in the Science and Mathematics Education 1, 2 and their subject specialisation courses. To critically explore and examine contemporary and critical issues in mathematics and science education. To deepen their pedagogical content knowledge and build their capacity to design, implement and assess mathematical and science understandings.

Course content

This course engages students with critical and contemporary issues in mathematics and science education from cultural and socio-historical dimensions. Students will examine current research in mathematics and science education and how it informs their practice. Students will explore long term and interdisciplinary planning strategies to build their competency as future key teachers in primary Mathematics and Science.
