Course aim

Preservice teachers will develop and apply their professional knowledge, implement professional practice and enact professional engagement as emerging graduate teachers in the relevant education setting.

Course content

Preservice teachers will investigate the nature of teachers’ work including evidence-based teaching and learning practice. Preservice teachers will develop positive, effective classroom environments appraising the importance of collaboration, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation in this process. Preservice teachers will evaluate the centrality of teacher-student relationships in influencing learning and for building connections with parents/caregivers. The preservice teacher will explore and negotiate the complexity of the supervisor relationship, they will plan learning experiences for students in various class configurations and apply appropriate curriculum documentation. Preservice teachers will develop assessment strategies with an emphasis on prior knowledge, formative assessment and timely feedback and strategies for reflective and reflexive practice.

Complete the UniSA Literacy and Numeracy Self-evaluation and the Responding to Abuse and Neglect (RAN) 7-hour training (by approved providers) to be eligible to proceed to Field Placement (Professional Experience Placement). The 7-hour RAN training must be completed whilst enrolled within the Initial Teacher Education program.
